Starting with movies, I saw a total of 28 films over the year, none of which were in theaters. Thanks to streaming services however, I was able to watch some new releases from home. With that said, this year was definitely not a movie watching year like years past. This was mainly due to the fact we couldn’t watch movies that were too intense for our toddler. There were some exceptions of course, our son really loves dinosaurs and I figured he was ready to watch Jurassic Park. He took it really well for the most part. Another reason we didn’t see a lot of films this year was because my son discovered the Cars movie series and that was the only thing that would really keep him entertained. We shall see if this trend continues into the new year.
Continuing with the list, there were some classic movies that I saw for the first time this year. These were Christmas Vacation, Clueless, Beethoven and Jingle All the Way. Additionally, my wife and I had a Studio Ghibli itch that we sufficiently scratched for now. I mention above, what my three favorite movies were for the year. I only considered movies that I hadn’t seen before but they did not necessarily have to be released within the year. Also, I gave some honorable mentions to three more films that deserve a watch if you haven’t done so already.

My year in gaming can be mostly summarized by two words: catching up. I did not spend a lot of time on games that released in 2021 other than a few standouts. I did spend a considerable amount of time catching up on the Halo series to get ready for Halo Infinite. However, by taking a look at the list you can see I didn’t quite catch up in time. As I’m writing this, I’ve beaten Halo 4 and 5 and working on Halo Wars 2 the first of which I beat in 2020. For the hardcore Halo fans that may have noticed, yes I deliberately skipped the two Spartan themed games.
This was also the year I was able to get a PS5. As you can see, I really only played two games on the system and they were both Spider-Man games. I did buy a bunch of games for my personal library and I hope I can get through more PS games this year (currently playing Horizon Zero Dawn). Hopefully 2022 continues to be filled with good games as much of the games slated for 2021 were delayed. However, I’m not too worried about which games release when as I have a backlog to get through.
So that will wrap up the recap for 2021’s movies and games. Also, I might change this list to include shows watched as there are plenty of good shows out there as well! Let me know which games and movies you were able to enjoy last year and which ones you recommend I play/watch next.
